Advocacy & Advice

Participation in high-level expert advisory groups

ENERGIA plans to participate in high-level expert advisory groups of strategic importance in order to advocate for gender and energy at the project level. This activity aims to ensure that gender and energy enters the key debates, and the planning of strategic networks and organisations.

Activity Update

  • Participation of ENERGIA Deputy Executive Secretary in GVEP Partnership Board Meetings
Through support from ENERGIA, Sheila Oparaocha has in her personal capacity, participated at all but one of the GVEP Partnership Board Meetings held to date. The GVEP Partnership Board serves in an advisory capacity to provide effective guidance and direction to the GVEP Technical Secretariat, donor organizations, partners and the broader international community.

  • Development of New Energy Policy by Sida - Consultation with partners
Wendy Annecke and Joy Clancy represented ENERGIA at Sida's consultative workshop to develop a new energy policy for the next five years. Three themes were addressed - energy and poverty, energy and environment, and reform - with background papers circulated ahead as discussion starters. Among an audience of energy experts and funders, whose interests lie mainly in large-scale infrastructure and the commercial uses of energy, ENERGIA was able to bring in gender and domestic energy issues to the fore. ENERGIA will comment on the draft report to be circulated in January 2005.
