Objectives, Strategies, and Target Groups

The immediate purpose of the ENERGIA project is to contribute to strengthening the capacity to integrate gender and energy into policies and programmes of government institutions, NGOs, knowledge institutions, multi- and bilateral donors, and private companies engaged in sustainable development in the South and in the North.

Strategies

In Phase 3, the ENERGIA programme has three strategies in order to realise its objectives:

  1. Capacity building
    The first and overriding strategy of ENERGIA during Phase 3 is to strengthen capacity:
    1. the capacity of the Secretariat to provide services and support the network;
    2. the capacity of the network in the South to participate actively at the national, regional and international levels; and
    3. the capacity of decision-makers, policymakers, planners, implementers and researchers to integrate gender and energy in sustainable development.

  2. Analysis
    Analysis will include the synthesis and review of existing literature, case study research, and dissemination of the materials. It will be aimed at further deepening the understanding of the energy, gender, and sustainable development linkages with a view to improving project, programme, and policy design. The concepts and recommendations resulting from this analytical effort will be widely disseminated and used in ENERGIA's capacity building and advocacy activities.

  3. Advocacy and advice
    Advocacy and advice will be aimed at influencing the decision making by policymakers and planners by highlighting the importance of integrating gender and energy in sustainable development policies and programmes.

These strategies are designed to further ENERGIA's vision of increasing Southern influence in the network, and to further mainstream gender and energy in energy and sustainable development policies, programmes, and research at the international, regional, and national levels.
