Journals - Call for Papers

Energy for Sustainable Development: The Journal of the International Energy Initiative
The International Energy Initiative is a Southern-conceived, Southern-located, non-governmental international organisation whose objective is to promote the efficient production and use of energy for sustainable development. ESD aims to forge an interacting community of energy actors concerned with the energy systems of developing countries, and to legitimise work in the “new “ area of the holistic/integrated treatment of the hardware-cum-software required. Its concerns are with energy goals, strategies and policies as well as with energy plans, programmes and projects. The journal views energy, not as an end in itself, but as an instrument of sustainable development.
Launched in May 1994, ESD is a bimonthly refereed journal including news, letters, both short (1500 word) and long (up to 10,000 word) articles, and reviews. Submissions on women and gender issues in energy are particularly welcome.

Internet Resources

HELP!! We are looking for Internet-literate volunteers who can help us search for material on women and energy, and who can give us advice on getting ENERGIA on line, and possibly help construct and maintain an ENERGIA site on the Net.

One source of training materials we have found is http://www.crest.org/renewable/women-and-energy/index.html, an Electronic Slide Show on Women and New and Renewable Sources of Energy, produced by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW). Have network members on the Internet found any other sites on women and energy? Please let us know!

Two other sites to check-out, that consist mainly of links to other sites with loads of informatio on renewable energy are:

  • Internet Resources for Renewable Energy/Sustainable Power Community, run by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), with links to renewable energy resources, multilateral and US government agency resources, global change, development and commercial resources, and renewable energy listserves. Log on at: http://syssrv9.nrel.gov/business/international/misc/resources.html
  • The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST), in Washington DC, operates the SOLSTICE information service for the sustainable energy field, with lots of good stuff on energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable living, including index and key word search functions. Go to http://solstice.crest.org/common/crestinfo.html, and click on SOLSTICE.
