ENERGIA News Issue 2.3, August 1998The Bulletin BoardSolar Sisters is a program run by the Himalayan Light Foundation, a Nepal-based NGO. The solar sisters are international female volunteers who wish to help improve in a practical way the lives of people in remote communities, whilst learning new skills themselves. Solar Sisters is currently looking for new volunteers. The cost per participant for this 9-day programme is $1600. For this amount, each participant subsidises one solar electric system for a Nepalese community. Volunteers join up in Nepal to learn how to install the systems. A 2-day training will be led by a solar electricity expert. The group will then be divided into pairs and each pair will install two systems in a village. During the installations, the participants will stay with local families. A translator and technical support will be provided. For more information, please contact:
