ENERGIA News Issue 2.1, February 1998Resources: Focus on TrainingGender in Energy - Training PackBelow are some extracts taken from the Introduction of the Training Pack which was announced in ENERGIA News, issue 1, December 1996. It is now readily available. It is designed to show interested professionals how to take into account women's needs and potentials in energy projects. It follows the gender approach, which means not focusing on women's needs alone but recognising that all energy projects need to be designed in the understanding that men's and women's needs, and capacities to participate, are different. It recommends the use of a set of analytical methods or tools which highlight gender concerns, as a regular step in the project planning process. The training pack is divided into seven modules:
This material, if followed right through, is sufficient for a three-week course in gender in energy, but shorter sessions could be planned using one or two modules at a time, according to need and the opportunities available. The manual, which is slightly more than 300 pages long, is loose-bound in a ring band folder to facilitate copying of the exercises and case studies for training sessions, and comes with trainer's notes. It is available at a cost which covers reproduction and postage only, as follows:
Requests from practicioners in developing countries for free copies will however be considered. Enquiries and orders to:
