Fuel Security and Supply Dynamics in Internally Displaced Persons' Camps of Northern Uganda

This study shows that fuel shortage is a big and neglected problem in camps. The results may encourage the various aid agencies in camps to consider fuel aid and ensuring fuel security for the internally displaced persons, and women in particular as they are mostly responsible for the supply of fuel.

ENERGIA and SARI/Energy sign Memorandum of Understanding promoting 'women in energy'
November 2008, Bangkok, Thailand
The MoU was formally signed at the close of the ENERGIA/UNESCAP High Level Policy Meeting on Networking towards Gender and Poverty Sensitive Policies. It is designed to promote women in energy programmes and mainstreaming policies and applications. The MoU was signed between ENERGIA represented by Ms Sheila Oparaocha, ENERGIA International Secretariat, and SARI/Energy represented by Ms Beth Hogan, Deputy Mission Director USAID New Delhi and Michael Ellis, Chief-of-Party for SARI/Energy PA Consulting. As noted in the MOU:
"This MoU is intended to provide the Parties with a general framework and a guiding tool in identifying and carrying out specific collaborative projects and activities. ENERGIA brings an established regional network of women professionals and, complimented by the resources of SARI/Energy, will significantly enhance the ability of each organization to reach out to Women in the region."

ENERGIA proudly presents the first issue of 'Lighting Lives', the newsletter of ENERGIA's regional network in Asia and congratulates the editorial team, ENERGIA Asia Regional Secretariat at the Centre for Rural Technology Nepal, for producing this issue. The articles in the newsletter are from the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Nepal and share some insights into how women can become successful as energy entrepreneurs in urban settings, how women respond to national energy policies and how women may benefit from improved kitchen management.Read >>
