Statement from ENERGIA on CSD 15
30 April - 11 May 2007, UN Headquarters, New York
Although CSD 15 did not produce a negotiated decision text due to political controversies about sustainable energy and climate change targets, ENERGIA’s progress in pressing for greater attention to gender and energy issues was well-reflected in the Chair’s Summary of the CSD negotiations, as well as in his proposed Decision Text, which was based on the points the CSD members had been able to agree on by the end of the session. The challenge for ENERGIA now will be to meet international expectations that have been raised in terms of effective advocacy and awareness-raising, while turning its attention more towards facilitating national implementation of gender-sensitive energy strategies. GEN-Bangladesh: Gender and Energy Orientation Training
The Gender and Energy Network in Bangladesh (GEN-B) organised a one-day training programme followed by a visit to test the training experiences in the field. The aim of this training was to create awareness and build capacity by sensitizing the participants on the various dimensions of gender and energy, as well as training them on the techniques and tools available for implementing a gender approach. The participants evaluated the training positively and found it very instructive. They would have liked to have more time, as they felt there were more issues yet to discuss. For more information, please contact Asma Huque.
