Women in Energy:

Fueling development through women’s empowerment and gender-inclusive energy practices

Date and Time: Monday, July 9  – 18:30-20:00 (EDT)
Location: Trusteeship Chamber UN Conference Building

Gender equality is a prerequisite to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, yet each day women and girls’ lives and livelihoods are disproportionately affected by energy poverty. At the same time, women’s participation can improve policy effectiveness, and increase impact of energy sector interventions – furthering the achievement of SDG7.

The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, United Nations Foundation, ENERGIA, Sustainable Energy for AllUN Women, World Bank, the Governments of Kenya and Norway, and Bright Green Renewable Energy Ltd. will convene an official HLPF side event on the pivotal and dynamic role of women in the energy sector and in achieving SDG7.

The event will highlight the importance of enhancing women’s leadership and diversifying the involvement of women across the energy value chain, and what elements of an enabling environment can advance these goals. With contributions from governments, international organizations, and civil society, the panel discussion will address the successes, challenges, and pathways forward in empowering women in the energy sector and achieving SDG7.
